“Dilige et quod vis fac” by Eleonore Stump
Eleonore Stump is Robert J. Henle, SJ, Professor of Philosophy at Saint Louis University, where she has taught since 1992. She has a B.A. from Grinnell College (classical languages), an M.A. from Harvard University (biblical studies, New Testament), an M.A. from Cornell University (medieval studies, medieval philosophy), and a Ph.D. from Cornell University (medieval studies, medieval philosophy). Her areas of specialization include medieval philosophy, philosophy of religion, and metaphysics. Her recent books include Grains of Wheat: Suffering and Biblical Narratives (Oxford University Press, 2024) and Philosophical Theology and the Knowledge of Persons (Wipf & Stock Publishers, 2023). She is a member of the Society of Christian Philosophers and was elected to the American Academy of Arts & Sciences in 2012. She is past president of the Society of Christian Philosophers (1995–1998), the American Catholic Philosophical Association (1999–2000), the Philosophers in Jesuit Education (2013–2016), and the American Philosophical Association, Central Division (2005–2006).
