Subscribe to the Blog’s new Substack

Don’t worry, the Blog of the American Philosophical Association isn’t going anywhere. However, we are offering a new way for readers to connect with us and access our content—monthly Substack newsletters!

What is Substack anyway?

Substack is an online platform for subscription newsletters. The platform has filled a niche in the social media landscape by creating a way for writers to disseminate longer-form content to a community of subscribers and engage directly with them. Creators tend to create content on a regular schedule which is then sent directly to their subscribers’ email inboxes.

What can you expect?

You can already view our first newsletter here. It’s a reflection from Nathan Eckstrand on the growth of the Blog during his time as Beat Editor and Editor-in-Chief.

We aim to publish open-access newsletters on a monthly basis. These posts will provide updates on APA and Blog happenings, from summaries of recent posts to upcoming event notices and administrative news. We will offer commentary on current events and topics, reflecting on past Blog posts and inviting our subscribers to join the discussion through Substack’s Notes feature. The newsletters will bring attention to not-so-forgotten posts from the Blog’s archive, sometimes centered around a particular topic or theme. We are lucky to have many brilliant writers and wish to give their ideas an extra space to shine.

We also hope to utilize Substack to connect with the philosophy community it hosts—from writers to readers. There are many insightful philosophy blogs on Substack (some from previous Blog contributors) and we are looking forward to highlighting them. In line with the American Philosophical Association’s mission to promote philosophy in both the academic and public milieu, we aim to engage with philosophers and enthusiasts on Substack to continue taking part in growing the online philosophy community.

Interested in joining the conversation? You can subscribe to our substack here! Our next newsletter will be published on November 3 and will reflect on public responses to Chat-GPT3 one year after its public release. Thank you for your continued support of the Blog of the APA.
