Linda Nuoffer is the APA’s administrative coordinator. She has been working for the APA since 2008.
What do you do at the APA?
I’m the APA staff liaison to the board of officers and to the committee chairs. I’m responsible for coordinating the APA’s board of officers meetings, leadership nominations, grant programs, and prizes, and I provide support to all APA committees. I also serve as the office manager and assistant to the executive director, and I’m usually the first person to answer the APA’s main phone line.
What is your favorite part of your job?
Among many things, one that really stands out is administering the APA’s prizes. The committee on lectures, publications, and research (LPR) has been expanding over the past few years to accommodate our growing number of prizes, so I’ve been providing a lot more support to the LPR committee chair in recent years. I enjoy everything that is involved in the prize process from working with the LPR chair to constitute the selection committees, all the way through sending notifications to the winners. It is very rewarding to be a part of this process.
What do you like to do outside work?
I most enjoy spending time with my family. We love to go to the beach, watch football (Go Ravens!), and celebrate all the holidays together. I enjoy skiing and also juggling, the latter of which I never thought I would master, but persistence pays off. I also used to ride horses and was on my university’s equestrian team, and (most people can’t believe this) I was a skydiver for seven years and was on a skydiving competition team for two of those years. I have 233 jumps under my belt, which is a miniscule number compared to most of my skydiving friends!
What are you most proud of in your non-professional life?
My three-year-old son, Max. He is my pride and joy!
Where is your favorite place you have ever traveled and why?
I used to work for Northwest Airlines and I took advantage of the standby flight privileges to fly with a couple of co-workers to Scotland. We bounced from hotels to houses to hostels as we toured the countryside, which was absolutely beautiful. I visited an acquaintance who lives in Edinburgh, so I got to see the city, too. I also have some Scottish ancestry, so it was a very meaningful trip for me.
Which super power would you like to have?
Flying! (Skydiving is about as close as you can get!)
