“When Cash Is Not Enough: The Case for In-Kind Distribution” by Debra Satz

Debra Satz is Vernon R. and Lysbeth Warren Anderson Dean of the School of Humanities and Sciences, Marta Sutton Weeks Professor of Ethics in Society, and Professor, by courtesy, of political science at Stanford University. She earned her Ph.D. in philosophy from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Prior to joining the faculty at Stanford, she taught at Swarthmore College and Harvard University. Her areas of specialization are social and political philosophy, philosophy of social science, philosophy of economics, and feminist philosophy. Her books include Ideas That Matter: Democracy, Justice, Rights, coedited with Annabelle Lever (Oxford University Press, 2019), and Economic Analysis, Moral Philosophy, and Public Policy, coauthored with Michael McPherson and Dan Hausman (Cambridge University Press, 2017). She was elected to the American Academy of Arts & Sciences in 2018 and is a past president of the American Society for Political and Legal Philosophy (2013–2016). She served as president of the APA Pacific Division in 2022–2023.
