“A Plea for Natural Philosophy” by Penelope Maddy
Penelope Maddy is Distinguished Professor, Emeritus, at University of California, Irvine. She has a Ph.D. in philosophy from Princeton University. Her research interests include philosophy of mathematics and logic, meta-philosophy, skepticism, various historical figures in modern and analytic philosophy. Her books include A Plea for Natural Philosophy and Other Essays (OUP, 2022), What do Philosophers do? — Skepticism and the Practice of Philosophy (OUP, 2017), The Logical Must (OUP, 2014), and Defending the Axioms (OUP, 2011). She served as president of the Pacific Division of the American Philosophical Association in 2019–2020.
